What is Mass Evangelism?
Evangelism is the preaching and communicating of the gospel (the good news) of Jesus Christ to an
individual or group of individuals. “Mass evangelism” is making the gospel known to a large mass of
people gathered in one place.
The word “crusade” often has a negative historical connotation, but in the Webster’s dictionary it is
defined as “a reforming enterprise undertaken with zeal." We prefer to use the word “campaign” instead
of “crusade”, but either way, what we are referring to is an event where multitudes of people hear a clear
presentation of God’s final word: the gospel. Our “crusades” are not religious attempts to enslave
people with doctrine, but life-changing demonstrations of God’s love, mercy, grace, healing, deliverance,
and salvation. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom! Our zeal is in rescuing the spiritually lost
from an eternity of bondage, torment and hopelessness.
Jesus, the Mass Evangelist and Healer
In the gospels, we see that wherever Jesus went and preached, large crowds followed Him. In the King
James version of the Bible it says that “a great multitude, when they had heard what great things He did,
came to Him.” He proclaimed the gospel of the kingdom to them and healed many who were sick and
diseased. We see this pattern throughout His ministry years.
In our meetings, we also believe in the present-day ministry of divine healing, and we simply ask the
crowd to lay their hands on the part of their body where they are sick. If they are sick all over, we ask them
to place their hands on top of their head. We then, say one large prayer for all. Since, we pray in Jesus’
name, then it is Jesus Who is responsible for the healings and miracles that take place.
Put in the Combine Harvester
Joel 3:13 says to "put in the sickle for the harvest is ripe". In the old days, wheat was harvested by the
use of curved, bladed instruments called "sickles." In some countries, these are still used, but in more
advanced regions, sickles have been replaced by combine harvesters. Since, there are more people in
the world than ever before, and there are literally "multitudes in the valley of decision", a more up to date
way of saying Joel 3:13, is: Put in the combines, for the harvest is ripe. The time is short, and the harvest
must be reaped or it will perish. The more that hear the gospel, the more that will be saved!
The Holy Spirit Deals with Individuals
We are aware that God uses different people for different functions in the church. There are also different
methods of evangelism. However, in every method, there is one common denominator: the Holy Spirit is
the one who convicts each individual person. It makes no difference, if there is one person or 30,000
people, God can save by the ones, tens, and ten-thousands, because He is working on individuals. This
is why mass evangelism is viable for today’s harvest of souls. It is not only a true biblical ministry, it is a
successful one, when the Lord of the Harvest is behind it!
